PRINCIPAL NEWS
Welcome to the last week of term. It has been a busy one but it has been nice to get back to some normality!
The senior unit campers have been having a wonderful time away. We have been touching base with them regularly and the weather has been fantastic! It is great to see the students pushing themselves with the team building activities. The bus should return between 2pm-2.30pm on Friday. We will keep families updated via text, daily messages and Facebook.
On Sunday we celebrate Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday commemorates the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem, when palm branches were placed in His path. It marks the beginning of Holy Week, the final week of Lent.

We have an action packed Term 2 coming up. It's only 9 weeks but everyday will be packed with learning experiences. Please keep an eye on the SIMON calendar and Facebook for weekly updates.
Tuesday 26th Aprl is a pupil free day. The staff will spend the day at St Joseph's Redcliffs learning about Structured Literacy and how sentence-level writing strategies can be used across Foundation to grade 6. We welcome the students back on Wednesday 27th April.

Middle Unit News
Its hard to believe that we are at the end of the term. We are so proud of all our students and the learning they have done this term. It has been our longest stint at school for quite some time so we hope they enjoy a well deserved rest. This week to celebrate the end of our term we are watching Stormboy, which we have studied this term. The movie is rated PG if you have any concerns with your child watching this please contact your classroom teacher.
Enjoy your break.
Junior Unit
What a wonderful term it's been! We are all ready for a well-earned and restful Easter break.
We are winding up our Integrated Unit about celebrating differences. Last week we learnt about the festival of Carnivale in Brazil. We even danced the Samba! Have a look at these wonderful, wiggly Samba dancers...

We are also reaching the end of our Religion unit about 'Right Relationships'. This week the children have had the opportunity to respond in their own personal way, after reflecting on their learning. Some children chose to make cards for people they love. Others chose to make posters about the call to be in 'right relationship' with our world. Here are some lovely samples of the children's thoughtful responses...

There is a very exciting change coming to the Junior Unit in Term Two. Miss Rebecca McVean will be married to her fiancé Dave during the Easter holidays and will return to us as Mrs Rebecca Bugden! We send Beck and Dave our very best wishes as they embark upon all the adventures of married life.

Thank you so much for all your support during Term One. We hope you all enjoy a happy and blessed Easter break and we look forward to getting the gang back together again in Term Two!
PLEASE NOTE: On Friday 8th April, the Junior students will be watching Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory (G rating, IMDB recommendation 6 years and over). If you would prefer your child does NOT participate in this activity, please let their classroom teacher know before Friday. Thank you
Foundation Unit News
We made it! Term 1 has certainly been a busy one. The children have settled into school life and most of the children are becoming very good at remembering to complete their morning jobs before the school day begins.
Thank you to the parents who are reading with their children every night and helping their children learn the Rainbow Words. It is definitely helping to back up what we are teaching the children at school.
This Friday we have our Easter Bonnet Parade at 1pm. Thank you to the children who have already brought their hats in. They look amazing. It would be lovely to see all of the children have a hat or headband for the parade. Below are some photos of the hats we have so far.
We would like to wish everyone a very safe and special Easter break. We hope you enjoy your time with your family and we look forward to seeing you all back for Term 2.

Religious Education News

Holy Week Liturgy
This Friday 8th April, we are celebrating our Whole School Holy Week Liturgy at 12.15pm in our School Hall. During this celebration, we recall the final days of Jesus' life particularly the significance of Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Saturday. It would be lovely to see some of our families and friends join us in our final liturgical celebration for the term. We look forward to seeing you there!

Palm Sunday
This week our Foundation, Junior and Middle Unit students have been making Palm Sunday banners to be carried in the Palm Sunday procession at the Sacred Heart Church this Sunday 10th April at 9am.
It would be fantastic if some of our students and their families could please join the celebration and be involved in the procession. The procession starts outside of the church (in front of the Monaghan Centre) and our students will process into the church, carrying their banners. Following the procession, students may return to their seats and participate in Mass with their families and the congregation. If you are able to join us, please meet Mrs Blagus, along with other students and their families at the front of the Sacred Heart Church at approximately 8.50am.
If you have any further questions about this celebration or are able to assist in any way, please don't hesitate to contact Mrs Maria-Stella Blagus - mblagus@spmildura.catholic.edu.au. Thanking you for your support in our parish celebration.

Technology News
Over the last few weeks, grade 1 & 2 have been learning to identify and name digital systems and explain the difference between hardware and software. Students have been busy appling this new knowledge to build their very own Chromebook with hardware and software parts.

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP & CYBERSAFETY

Our ability to communicate to communicate with anyone in the world, at any time, via the internet has grown at breakneck speed. Sometimes it can feel impossible to keep up. Worrying about our young people is understandable, and not unjustified: in 2020, for example, one in five children between the ages of 10 & 15 experienced bullying online.
The tips below highlight ways that adults can support young people’s positive online behaviours: by adopting and following ‘netiquette’, we can show them how to avoid getting into difficulty as they learn to negotiate the continually evolving digital landscape. In the guide, you'll find a number of tips such as protecting yourself, replying wisely and being forgiving.

Sports News
I went to Swan Hill to compete in inter school tennis. I played three sets to six to start with and I won the first two 6-0 and 6-1. In my third set I lost 0-6, this girl was very good and is part of a Tennis Australia Development Squad. I finished second on my card so I had to then play in a crossover final for a chance to play in the State Finals, unfortunately I lost 4-6. Overall I finished in third position out of the eight girls playing.

Arts news
It is so exciting to finally see some finished art going up around the school! Be sure to walk through the middle unit and check out their spectacular self portraits, featuring each child 'reading' their favourite book. They are just amazing!

While you're checking out the creations around the school, be sure to head into the foundation rooms to catch a glimpse of the brilliant "Fauvist Cows" they created using bright coloured markers, paint brushes and water!
